How to Create Your First Canvas
A canvas is where you build with Gavana — an infinite board that holds text nodes, image nodes, sticky notes, and the connections between them. This guide walks through creating one from scratch.
Prerequisites
- You’re signed in to Gavana
Steps
Step 1: Open the Canvas Library
Sign in and land on the Canvas Library — the page that lists every canvas you’ve saved.
Step 2: Click New Canvas
Click New canvas in the top-right of the header. A new canvas is created and opens immediately — there’s no naming step required to get started.
Step 3: Add a node
Use the toolbar to add your first node — Text, Section, or Sticky Note — or open the add menu for Generate image, Upload image, Assets, Brand, or List.
Step 4: Arrange the board
Drag nodes to position them, and drag from one node’s edge to another to draw a connection between them.
Step 5: Let it save
Your canvas saves to local browser storage as you work. Once you’re signed in and sync is ready, it also syncs to your account — watch the sync status indicator next to the Gavana title on the library page.
Tips
- You don’t need to click a separate “save” button — Gavana saves automatically.
- If you’re not signed in or sync hasn’t caught up yet, your canvas still exists locally and will sync once it can.
- You can always get back to the library from the canvas by navigating to the Gavana home.
